About this image:

Created in 1999 as an affirmation of anonymous female histories, this piece, entitled Memory Squared, features seventy free-standing multifired ceramic units arranged in a rectangle supporting seventy 'vulva' bowls.

"This floor component bears a pronounced lunar quality, waxing and waning as the viewer perambulates."

"By intent, this fertile meadow is a paean to millenia of unrecorded and unacknowledged female presence."

Glenn Allison, AGSM, 1999.

This work was first shown in Embodied reCollections, a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, Brandon.

Dimensions: 3 x 2.2 m (each component 20 x 20 x 15 cm)

Collection: The Alberta Foundation for the Arts Art Collection.
